/ THE FREIBURG VIGIL
FR / EN
From the 20th of June 2015 to the 19 of June 2016
With the Theatre Freiburg, Germany
In the same year as Les Veilleurs d'Haguenau, WLDN/Joanne Leighton moved across the Rhine and created Die Türmer von Freiburg - The Freiburg Vigil, in partnership with the theatre where the choreographer was in residence. This is the first time the performance has been staged internationally, and it will give rise to several other fine European encounters later on. The shelter, created by TOVO&JAMIL, is installed on the theatre roof.
The fifth edition of the The Vigil project crosses the Rhine to take root in the urban fabric of Freiburg im Brisgau. Facing East and West, the Vigil's gaze is a link between the Black Forest and the Vosges, between the memory of the first Vigil Shelter built in Belfort and a continuation of the experience beyond the borders.

/ SOUNDSCAPES
Créé par sound designer Peter Crosbie. At the conclusion of The Vigil, after a year of performance, a 12 hour closing event is planned in the theatre in Freiburg. During a whole night, a performance entitled Reading the Vigil takes place whereby the traces written by the Vigils are read aloud, and photos of the Vigils and the city landscape are projected on stage. Each Vigil, when he or she wishes, can walk on stage to discover the "Open Book" installation: each participant composes his or her own unique Vigil book by assembling the pages of his or her choice. They can equally rest in large cushions especially installed on stage for the occasion.
